Hi, my name's Gint. I'm originally from Chicago, but have been living in San Antonio for the last year and a half. Haven't found any Lietuviai here as of yet, but I know there are some. Send me a message, here or gi_mi76@hotmail.com and maybe we can hook up for drinks/dinner. I'm in King William if it matters.

Iki.

Well now, Mr. Gint(aras?) from Chicago. North or SOUTH side? If south side then we are kin for sure since my address used to be 65th and Washtenaw = Marquette Park.
Welcome to this forum and I'm sure you will like it here in Texas (It's a lot warmer for Gods sake)

Just Gintas - and thank you and hello Kestuti. Any self respecting person is from the South side (j/k anyone from the North side)(GOOOO Sox!!). We were probably kaimynai. I grew up on 67th and Rockwell. Seneliai lived on 71st and Washtenaw, we all went to church at Nativity, as well as school for me. How long ago did you live there? My family moved when I was about 12, this was 20 years ago, and everyone else still lives in Lemont.

I've actually lived in Texas on and off for 5 years (Houston and here in San Antonio). Just have to do some fine tuning in adjusting to the summer humidity.

Thanks for the warm welcome, and look forward to chatting.

Gintas

The leader of San Antonio Lithuanian Community Venice Grantham forwarded this information to Houston Lithuanians. Since there might be some folks who do not participate in the activities of San Antonio Lithuanian Community, but might be interested in this particular event - Texas Folklife Festival - in which Lithuanians will have a booth - I thought I will reprint the info here:

Lithuanian-American Community, Inc.
Lithuanians in Texas

Labas!

It is time for the 39th Annual Texas Folklife Festival! Join the Lone Star Party!

Dates are Friday, June 11 5-11 p.m.
Saturday, June 12 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
Sunday, June 13 Noon-7 p.m.

Experience the delicious cuisine, traditional dances, fine-crafted keepsakes, storytelling and music of more than 40 ethnic groups at the biggest three-day cultural celebration in Texas. This is sponsored by UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures .
UTSA in association with the Smithsonian Institute located at 801 E. Durango Blvd.
HemisFair Park downtown San Antonio. For more information:
www.texasfolklifefestival.org

For those who do not request their credentials early from me, ( you are required to work in the booth to receive free credentials of which I have only 40) here are the rates for tickets:

Adult (12+) $10 in advance*/ $15 at the gate

Child (6-11) $ 5 in advance*/ $ 6 at the gate

Group Rates (20+ adults) $8 each, sold in advance only
Online ticket sales at web site. Advance tickets are also available at HEB Stores, Ft Sam Houston, Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB and the Institute of Texas Cultures Museum Store. * There may be convenience fees for advance purchase at some locations & online.

Working in the booth consists of talking to people about Lithuania-showing them where it is on the map (hanging in display), handing out literature about our crafts to people who are interested, sports-minded people can talk about the Lithuanian sports players on one of our displays, there is egg-etching for adults only, and the most popular craft is finger-weaving. This is done with (3) or (5) strings of different colors of yarn. We teach them how to make a friendship bracelet and they take it with them. There are many who come back year after year to make them, youngsters and adults. The Girl Scouts and Home-schooled
students will be helping in this area.

Folklife Festival 2010

I realize the work schedule may be difficult for some. I appreciate any portion of time you can spend with us. It is always fun to talk to people and share our culture. Many have said that our booth is the most educational booth at the festival. If you do not have a lot of knowledge about Lithuania…just give me a few minutes with you! Many things are self explanatory as there are display signs with them. Gina and Don Skucas or Venice will be there at all times to be available for what ever comes up.

Our booth is located at the same space on the Alamo Dome side of the Institute of Texan Cultures, facing Bowie Street and IH 37 in San Antonio. Coming from the main floor facing the Alamo Dome, of the outside patio that surrounds the institute, down the steps and to your right down a few more steps and we are under the big beautiful shade tree.

Those who wish to ride VIA Metropolitan Transit can request a leaflet and I will mail it with your credentials, otherwise you may call 210-362-5050 for information.

Hours of Operation:

Friday, June 11th Saturday, June 12th Sunday, June 13th
5-11 p.m. 11a.m.-11p.m. Noon-7p.m.

Proposed work Schedule:

4:30-8:00 p.m. 10:00-2:00 p.m. 11:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
8-11 p.m. 2-6 p.m. 3:30-7 p.m. (close)
6-11 p.m.

Please call me at (830-996-3738 OR my cell # 830-534-5784 OR e-mail me at armven@lavernia.net and I will mail your credentials (worker passes) to gain entry at the gate. We changed our e-mail last year, so make sure it is correct in your computer address.
Remember, I have only 40 passes this year.

It is not too soon to mark your calendars for Christmas Kucios, December 4, 2010,
Oblate Renewal Center, 5700 Blanco Road, San Antonio, 2-5 p.m. Watch for your letter in November.

Blessings and peace!

Venice Grantham
