This post got some 250 hits, so I know you are watching, and that is good. It would be better if we heard from you but that's OK, I was shy once too.
In Dallas area there are quite a few lithuanians. There are some in Allen, McKinney, Plano, Richardson just to name a few places. So till I hear from one of you, you will have to put up with my chatter. Bye for now...........

From lost pages of HISTORY: (I often wondered why not HERstory, but that's another story)

Roots roots, like most people we would like to know who we were before we became TEXANS. Unlike Germans, Poles, Czecks, Irish and others, Lithuanians with few exeptions began arriving to US in 1880's and settled mostly on the east cost and upper midwest. But I said there were a few exeptions and TEXAS turns out to be the state that welcomed the FIRST group of Lithuanian settlers back in 1850's. Yes, that's some 10yrs before the Civil War. Wow is that right you say.........So where and what happened to them you say?........(to be continued next week)
Cool

From lost pages of History (part II)

Where? The first settler came in 1852 and settled near Yorktown in De Witt county, Texas. Shortly some 80 families followed. They came mostly from Prussian town of Gumbine through Galveston and Indianolla ports, then traveled by wagon to De Witt county......Some of you "sharp" students will say: Hey, Prussia?........The original inhabitants were and still are Lithuanian speaking and writing Lithuanians, then under German and now under Russian rule.

Now where was I? Oh yes, so what happened to them?
They are still there, such as Patsy Hand, and are proud of their roots and their cemetery, where their ancestors lay, called JONISCHKIES.
Established in 1864 it is located on FM 119 and Alvis rd. near Royal Oaks outside of Yorktown. There is a Texas historical marker "LITHUANIANS IN TEXAS" erected in 1994. The property is owned by a Lithuanian descendant Mr. William Idelis.

So as you travel between Huston and San Antonio, stop for a minute or two at the cemetery and pay your respects.......If you have more time, visit the Historical Museum at Yorktown.

Read, in DRAUGAS (friend) the Lithuanian daily, that there is a Lithuanian living near Big Bend Texas.....wow.......So I got to thinking......and came up with this idea:

If you have Lithuanian roots and you live in some out-of-the-way corner of Texas.....Let us know, tell us something about yourself and that fascinating story of your travels.....

Hi there,

I see you are just up the road from me. I stumbled upon this website in my never-ending fruitless search for a Lithuanian restaurant in Dallas. :-(

Glad to see a fellow Lithuanian in my neck of the woods! I feel so alone here.

Thanks for the welcome, Vytas!
Well, my husband's company brought us to TX from AZ about 4 years ago. I moved to AZ from Chicago after I graduated from college.
My Lithuanian roots are pretty deep, I guess LOL. My father was born there and came to the US in 1946 (when he was about 4). Sadly, I don't speak Lithuanian (long story) but would love to learn.

I moved to Lubbock from the southeastern coast of Massachusetts 7 months ago and have yet to find a Lithuanian soul. Are there any Liths in the Panhandle area?
